Exploratory – An innovative enterprise

Exploratory strongly believes in introducing young children to the joy of learning science from an early age by stimulating their curiosity and by providing them a platform to showcase their talent and abilities.

To realize these objectives Dr. V.G. Bhide  along with his colleagues designed various activities for school and college students and developed Exploratory way of learning science.

Early Years of Exploratory

Exploratory is a unique and successful experiment in the field of innovative science education.

Initially when Exploratory began its work in 1992 in one room in Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Pune Kendra with minimum infrastructure. Several models were prepared with the help of students from Pune University through which Dr. Bhide used to interact with the students in his inimitable way. Slowly, exploratory expanded to larger space and bigger infrastructure to accommodate larger number of students.

The idea of Exploratory caught on like fire. Eminent people from all walks of life peeped in to witness this innovative way of science learning. Many university professors, scientists, philanthropists, industrialist and other renowned science personalities eagerly contributed to this venture.

Realizing the good work done by Exploratory, Govt Of Maharashtra allotted a plot of land to the Exploratory . The new building having seven well equipped laboratories, industrial exposition hall, auditorium and a spacious library was inaugurated by Dr. R.A Mashelkar in October 2006.

During this period Exploratory received strong financial support from Tata Trust for next 6 years, which helped Exploratory  in consolidating labs, infrastructure and programs.

Several eminent personalities of national and international stature took interest in the Exploratory. Eminent personalities like Dr. APJ Kalam, Prof. Yashpal, Prof U.R. Rao etc visited Exploratory, which brought the Exploratory into limelight at the national level.

Increased awareness and visibility led to greater demand for Exploratory way of learning. To cater to wider audience Exploratory  opened two additional centres in Kothrud (2009) and Nigdi (2011) in the suburbs of Pune.
